Michael Joy’s artwork explores the aesthetic relationships between human, organic and architectural forms. His sculptures are fabricated with a conceptual emphasis based on playful metaphors and puns. Joy is one of the few sculptors who uses a modern, durable composite (appropriated from the architectural restoration industry) to cast his finished sculptures. With this process, he is able to transform common objects and textures that would other-wise be too fragile or unusable as permanent works of art.

“I utilize human, organic, architectural or manufactured forms to create playful objects which appear to have originated from a puzzling and paradoxical place. I enjoy connecting these forms to the spoken word, primarily metaphors and puns. As for myself, I believe that a successful sculpture is one that can captivate both a child and an adult simultaneously.”
